On April 9, 2025, another hearing will be held for those charged after the demonstration in Krosno Odrzanskie, Poland. The demonstration was an act of solidarity with people on the move who have been and are being held in inhumane conditions in so-called guarded centers for foreigners (SOC).
These centers are essentially prisons for people who have not committed a crime. Their only offense is that they came to the European Union. The System makes it clear – whether you can move freely depends on what kind of passport you have. We can go anywhere in the world, most of the world can’t. In order to escape wars, poverty and a life without prospects, they are forced to take huge risks, use human traffickers, accept further humiliation. Many of them pay for this with their lives, health and traumas that leave a mark for years. Once they manage to survive the journey, a stay in a migrant camp awaits them.
For years we have witnessed people inside these facilities resisting injustice. Hunger strikes inside the prison were going on at the time when people in Krosno Odrzanskie gathered to protest against the System. Some of the protestors were charged with hooliganism and await trial on the 9th of May. We join the open call by the noborders team and show solidarity with the victims of the state repression! Fighting for human rights is not a hooligan act!
